It’s clear that this ski season is going to be like no other, there will be strict rules in-place at all of the ski hills in Quebec and across the country. As a family, we really needed to evaluate where we would be skiing this year and what was would be the best family ski hill in Quebec. After doing a lot of research, we made our decision and chose to buy a seasons pass at Ski Chantecler in the Laurentien.

Why we Chose Ski Chantecler

Located about an hour from Montreal, Ski Chantecler first opened in 1970, and since Between 1999, the hill has made many major investments including updating its chair lifts and adding a magic carpet to help little ones learn how to ski. My husband and I have been to Ski Chantecler a few times before we had kids, and always really enjoyed ourselves there. In doing my research, most people said this was a great family hill with shorter lift lines and a nice vibe. They have a great ski school, and even in Covid times, they have set themselves up to accommodate the new rules, like installing outdoor fire pits to warm up at, and adjusting their parking lots to be more ski out style (plus their parking lot is very close to the base of the hills).

Affordability
There are a lot of hills to choose from in the Laurentien, but what makes Ski Chantecler stand out is the price. At the time of writing this, a seasons pass for an adult is $349, and for children ages 6-12 is only $209! Yes, that’s for the entire season (this price is valid until December 12, 2020). If a season’s pass isn’t your thing, a family pass for the day until 4pm, including 2 adults and 2 children is only $142 + taxes, or 1 parent and 2 children is only $99 +taxes. Trust me when I say these are GREAT prices. Some hills in the area charge $80 for 1 adult for the day.

Size
Bigger is not always better when it comes to ski hills, and especially in during a year of Covid. Some of those large resorts would include a fairly long commute to get from the car to the lift. And now with covid, and depending on the coloured zone your ski hill is, or where you live, you may not have access to the chalet, and you most certainly will not be allowed to leave your things in the chalet for the day. Your car is your chalet this year, so the closer you are to it, the better! In preparation for the new reality, Ski Chantecler has been working on making their parking lots (P1 & P2) ski out style lots. (and Ski in if you’re coming in from a certain trail)

Terrain
With 22 trails, Ski Chantecler offers a little something for everyone. There are is great variety of green and blue trails, as well as some fun black-diamonds and some pretty cool sous-bois (glades in english), and the Laurentien usually get some really great snow, which makes for some fun powder days. They also have a magic carpet for those learning. It’s really the best kind of hill for a family like ours. With a 6 year old who is on season 3 of skiing, and a 4 year old who is on his second season of skiing, having a hill that is both easy to navigate as well as fun for everyone was a really important factor.
The hill also offers up some night skiing if you can’t get to the hill during the day which is always a fun bonus (and makes for even more ski time!)

We’re really excited to start our ski season, and hope that the weather cooperates so we can get to skiing really soon! We are confident in choosing Ski Chantecler as our ski hill this winter, as it’s a top hill of choice for family ski in Quebec.

I hope to have inspired your to choose a really great hill this winter for your family as well.
