If you’re wondering if the Quebec ski resorts will be open this season, you’re not alone. There are all kinds of theories floating around as to what the season will look like, and who will have access to the slopes and when.
Despite COVID-19 shutting down hills in March 2020, several ski resorts were able to welcome visitors during the summer for activities like hiking, biking, and swimming. Surely we know that they have been planning and preparing for the winter season and as the Association des stations de ski du Québec (ASSQ) states that they are confident that the season will go as planned. Ski resorts will be opening!

So what does that mean for you? We surely need to start planning for our ski season as well, right? Where do you even start? How should you be planning for the the winter season? It’s not going to be same, that we know for sure.

Based on a bit of research, I’ve got a few tips on how you can prepare for the ski season.

  1. Buy a Seasons Pass or Some sort of Commitment to the Hill
If there is one thing that is for certain, it’s that season pass holders as well as any other kind of season ticket purchases or commitments will have priority access to the hill. It looks like most hill will have a very small block of tickets for sale on the day of or advanced purchase to help reduce the number of visitors in a day.
  2. Plan For Picnics , and Not Necessarily in The Cafeteria
It’s safe to say that the old days of families piled on top of each other in the chalet or cafeteria are over. I’ve heard of some resorts looking at outdoor tents with heating lamps to add additional seats, but a picnic at the hill at your car may be a reality this year. Plan for snacks and meals on the go, because you may not be getting inside this year.
  3. Bring a Mask
Apparently neck warmers and ski mask will be sufficient for on the chair lifts, that is IF hills decide to let strangers ride together. However if you need to talk to someone (think ski school teacher) or need to jump in the chalet for a bio break, you’ll need a mask. Have one ready at all times. My advise, place one in a ziplock bag in your pocket. That way it won’t soak through and won’t be soggy when you need it.
  4. Hand Sanitizer
I’ll admit, I have been googling “does hand sanitizer freeze” more times then I would like to admit. Just so you know, it only freeze at -174F, so we’re good.
Bring along a mini hand sanitizer to pack in your pockets. Sure there will be dispensers everywhere, but it’s much easier to have your own when you need it. Disinfecting hand wipes are handy as well. I had some in my snowboard bag last season (wet wipes makes a great travel pack), and I will certainly be brining those again this season.
  5. Cleaning the Equipment
Sure, after every day at the slopes, we were cleaning our clothing, but when it came to the hard goods, as long as they were dry, I didn’t do much in the way of cleaning. That’s certainly going to change this year. I’ll be using my disinfecting wipes to wipe down ALL of our ski gear including boots, skis, snowboard, helmets, goggles and even our ski keys (our locks).

So those are my tips, I know as the season begins these tips will evolve and improve based on my experience. For us, we are already enrolled in snow school for the kids, and we have our seasons passes ready to go. I’ll be sure to pack extra sanitizer, masks and snacks this season, are you?

Hoping for a safe and amazing ski season for you all!
