A few nights ago my husband and I had a discussion about enrolling our kids up for ski school. Usually this is the time to book in order to take advantage of early bird specials. Thing is, ski school was shut down early last year because of covid, and we don’t want to loose out this year as well.
These are valid concerns, especially as there is so much unknown.

So I wanted to know: how are ski hills in Quebec guaranteeing the ski season? And if they are, what are the credit or refund policies in place?

So the research began, and what I can tell you is that I noticed that some hills are offering an assurance that if ski school is cancelled you get your money back. However, this isn’t a one size fits all type of situation. In order to break it down, i’ve highlighted some of the most popular resorts in Quebec and am sharing their policies here for you.

Ski Bromont

The resort is launching Guaranteed Season, a program of exclusive measures for customers who purchased their 2020-2021 ski season pass before Tuesday, October 13, 2020, 11:59 pm.  This initiative aims to reassure customers who wish to take advantage of the best rates on next winter’s season passes despite the financial and health uncertainties caused by COVID-19.

For whatever reason, season pass holders who do not wish to ski during the winter of 2020-2021 can :

Postpone their season pass to the 2021-2022 winter at no additional cost and without a rate increase, or Request a full refund of their season pass.

To be eligible, clients must :

  • Have purchased their 2020-2021 season pass before 11:59 p.m. on October 13, 2020.
  • Not to have used their ski pass privileges for gondola rides during the fall 2020 season.

It’s not clear if Bromont is extending this option to the ski school registration. I was unable to find it on their site.

Les Sommet Group of Resorts

Has launched it’s Ski Guarantee which I have found to be the most flexible option of all.  Obtain a credit or full refund of your Season Pass if requested before December 15, 2020

Obtain a credit or full refund for your Snow School program or Race team program, if requested before the first day of the course or training.

Ask for the postponement of your 2020-21 season to 2021-22 without additional cost and price change, if requested before December 15, 2020

Once the ski season has started, you can request a credit for season pass or program, according to the cancellation policy and without special conditions.

This guarantee, unique to les Sommets, applies to all annual passes (regular and optional) and all Snow School programs, including Racing Teams.

Owl’s Head

Owl’s Head has introduced the  “OH Ski Guarantee”.

WHAT DOES THE OH SKI GUARANTEE OFFER TO YOU?
Our OH Ski Guarantee allows the confident purchase of our Ninoxe 20/21 products (season pass), giving the holder the option of deferring the use of their 2020-2021 season pass to 2021-2022 at no cost and without price change, if the request is made before December 10, 2020 or before your first visit to the slopes.

Once your ski season has started, the general conditions in force will apply.

This guarantee is applicable on all seasonal subscriptions (regular and optional).

Purchases must have been made before December 10, 2020.

The OH Ski Guarantee is only available for Ninoxe products which are not yet used at the time of the postponement request. A product is considered unused if the pass has not been scanned or used to access the ski lifts after March 15, 2020.

Also not clear if this is extended to the ski school registration. I was unable to find it on their site.

Ski Saint-Bruno

I was disappointed that Montreal’s #1 snow school had nothing regarding refunds or policies regarding potential cancelations of the season. It may be

too early still, but I was unable to find anything on their site or on their social channels. As of the posting of this blog, there still wasn’t anything regarding their guarantee.

Mont Sutton

Ski Mont Sutton just announce their ski policy, and it states: any pass purchased in pre-sale by October 31, 2020 and not used by December 10, 2020 may, at your request, be carried over to the next season or refunded, free of charge and for any reason. Also, in the event that a closure is required by the government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus this coming season, a “guaranteed season policy” has been pre-established.

The guaranteed season policy provides you with a refund or credit based on the days of hill operation.

So that was my findings so far for the 2020/2021 ski season, and what some resorts are doing to try and guarantee your ski season. I’ll keep updating this post as i find more hills include their policies. If you find any resort policies that I haven’t included in here, please add them in the comment section below.
