Ski Season is Here – 1 Mom on a Snowboard. 2 Kids on Skis.

Well it’s FINALLY ski season and I’m pumped, aren’t you? We’ve officially done 2 ski-school lessons this winter (the first class was rained out – yes rain, in January, in Canada… it happens). My 5 year old is KILLING IT, my 3 year old is getting used to the idea. He’s eager and is totally into the idea, so at least there’s that.

If this is your first time reading one of my blog posts, let me introduce myself. We’re a family of skiers and snowboarders.  My husband and I have both been snowboarding since we were teens, so it only made sense to get our kids on the hill as soon as they were potty trained. We tried snowboarding… and for my oldest, he wasn’t having it – so we decided to put them on skis to start, and give them the option to switch to a snowboard as soon as they feel comfortable enough.

What have the first two classes of the ski season taught me?

  1. 3 year olds may be better suited for the 8:45am class. 10:30am is really the back half of their morning and they are starting to burn out.
  2. I may not get to ski as much as I’d like to as there is a lot of staying around while the 3 year old gets comfortable with the class.
  3. At 5 years old, they are basically pros… and there is light at the end of the tunnel.
  4. Brining a lunch will save you $50.
